In 1994 Nissan brought about one of the most cult classic chassis to date. The S14 takes all of the best attributes of the S13 and simply refines it. Pearl White (WK0) is an ever classic choice that always looks good. Based on the way the Origin Labo Stream front bumper and URAS Mikey Magic side skirts match the body it looks like it was reshot at some point in time. The paint job looks great with only some routine minor blemishes to note. The bodywork itself is in awesome shape, of course, there are a few normal door dings, but nothing out of the ordinary for a 41K verified mile car. The aftermarket pieces line up quite well with the lines of the car, however, like any aftermarket aero it’s never quite as perfect of a fit as the OEM pieces. With the more aggressive look, you naturally couldn’t leave it sitting at the stock ride height. To get the body down to a better height for the 17″ Advan Gewalt wheels HKS coilovers sit at all four corners.
The interior has been held to the same standards and it really shows. The S14 interior is leaps and bounds ahead of the S13 when it comes to overall refinement. While it still has a very to the point layout, the materials used simply seem to hold up better over time. There have been a few modifications made inside the cabin, most notably the driver’s seat. A Recaro adjustable back bucket replaces the factory seat and offers a tremendous amount of support that the stock one lacks. While the Recaro offers a fantastic support it’s luckily been spared from the typical bolster wear that’s associated with it. The same can be said about the rest of the stock interior, with the seats being free of any notable tears or stains. Other high wear items like the original steering wheel are all in great shape for its age with is awesome to report. The factory radio was replaced with a newer unit, but most people still opt to change those out in favor of one that’s a bit more US friendly. The only blemish to note is a crack atop the gauge cluster which is why it’s sporting a Shevron dash pad. Naturally, these came with all of the typical factory accessories; power windows, door locks, mirrors, and automatic climate control that seems to still be blowing cold.
The driving mannerisms of this S chassis leave little to be desired. We all know what sets this car apart from its USDM counterpart, the SR20DET. The two-liter four-banger is known for its power potential. In stock trim, these motors are no slouch, and with a few simple bolt-ons, it really comes to life. The steering is on point and the suspension is incredibly planted. HKS coilovers have replaced the OEM suspension, and are height and dampening adjustable. Largely due to 50/50 weight distribution, the way the car turns in is crisp and brakes are divine. The factory exhaust doesn’t do the car any justice, whereas the APEX’i catback gives it a more fitting tone. Upfront an HKS intake lets the turbo sing its trademark song on and off boost. The SR quickly jumps to life and has no problem pulling all the way to redline. Shifts through the proper 5-speed transmission are smooth without and grinds. The clutch feels strong and does not slip under any load. To ensure that everything is in top shape we’ve gone ahead and put on four new tires, a fresh battery to combat the cold, along with a routine oil change. With its vast availability of parts available stateside this guy would make a great daily driver. Then again Nissan did leave a ton of untapped potential on the table with the SR, so it wouldn’t take much to turn this chassis into a real monster. Now the only thing its missing is a new driveway to call home.
